Mr. William "Bill" Taylor Williams, Sr

ROCKY MOUNT – William “Bill” Taylor Williams, age 94, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026.  Born in Nash County, NC on April 13, 1931, he was the son of the late Johnnie Buck Williams and Lorena Wright Wiliams and his mother who passed when he was three years old, Myrtie Louelle May Williams.  He was also preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Jean Barnes Williams; and his sisters, Dorothy Williams Rowland (Harold), Frances Williams Harper (Harold), and Mary Williams Hunter; and his brother-in-law, Bill Robinson.

Bill proudly served his country during the Korean War in the US Army.  He was a part-owner and president of Williams Food Store in Rocky Mount, where he faithfully worked until just two months ago at the age of 94.  Bill truly enjoyed working and found great joy in staying active each day.  Above all, he loved his family and cherished time spent together, especially during holidays and family reunions, which were always meaningful and well-attended occasions.  Known for his warm and engaging nature, he rarely sat down for a meal without taking time to talk, often found visiting and catching up with those around him.  He also had a fondness for simple pleasures, including his favorite snacks.  In earlier years, he took great pride in tending to his rose garden, where his love for roses was evident.  He also shared a special appreciation for hummingbirds, finding joy in their presence.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Vickie Williams Rivenbark of Wilmington; his son, William Taylor Williams, Jr. and wife, Susan, of Clayton; his grandchildren, Christy Hedgepeth (Albert), Brian Williams, and Will Rivenbark (SaJorden); his great-granddaughter, Mary Hedgepath; his brothers, J.B. Williams (Sherry) and Joe Williams (Paula); his sisters, Hulda Williams Little (Donald), Clara Williams Ocken (Dave), and Nina Williams Robinson; and many nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 11:30 AM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.  Visitation with the family will follow the service at the graveside.
