Comparing Cemeteries
When considering a cemetery, there are many important questions to consider in order to make sure the decision is good for your family and for future generations. Here are the main decision points to consider:
When visiting a cemetery you will find many clues about how the property is managed and maintained. Major issues now, will only become worse in the future.
- Is the ground even? – Many cemeteries, including city cemeteries have very uneven ground. This can be a tripping danger. Uneven ground is usually caused by soil settling. It’s a natural process, but requires attention. You should never see lots of uneven ground or deep settling. Tilted headstones are another sign of neglect. Rocky Mount Memorial Park is constantly at work remediating settled areas.
- Are the grounds well maintained? – Poor quality turf, numerous weeds, tall weeds & grass near trees and headstones, and dead trees are very telling signs that maintenance is lagging. Other signs include tattered flags, crumbling roadways, and litter. Rocky Mount Memorial Park does not allow such conditions to develop.
- Is the cemetery safe? – Sometimes it’s as easy as noticing if you feel safe at the cemetery. Is it in a safe part of town? Do you see cemetery staff out working on your visits? Rocky Mount Memorial Park is located in a beautiful part of town, our location has cameras monitoring the grounds, and our friendly staff is usually out working and happy to answer questions or resolve concerns.
