Soloman Ray Brown, age 61, died peacefully in his sleep on September 3, 2022.
Ray “Get down Brown”’ “Can Man”, was born in Rocky Mount on Dec 5, 1960. He was the son of Mary Frances and Albert Brown, Sr. He graduated in 1980 from Northern Nash High School and was employed by North Carolina Wesleyan University for the last 10 years.
He was one of the original Richard Petty fans and an avid race fan that followed NASCAR all of his 61 years. Ray was a very well-mannered and polite man who loved his wife and family. He always loved going to the beach and swimming in the ocean with all of the children. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his oldest brother, Grady Brown; and his son, Tyler Ray Brown.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Amy Brown; daughter, Emily Brown; Chris Brown, his brother to whom he was very close; nephews, Wes Brown (Heather) of Wilson and David Brown (Claire) of Rocky Mount. And most importantly, Katelyn, Haley, Julia Claire, Macie, Camryn and Mason – his great nieces and nephew, whom he loved so much!
Service will be held at 1pm, Wednesday, September 7, at First United Methodist Church, 100 S. Church St., Rocky Mount, NC 27804. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, September 6 from 6:30pm to 8:30 pm, also at FUMC, and other times at the home.
