Shelby Jean Williams Meares, 78, died Friday. Funeral service 7 pm Tuesday at Massey Funeral Home, Zebulon.
Shelby Jean Barrow was born March 28, 1940 in Pitt County. She married her love Raymond Thomas Williams. At a young age, she taught herself how to play the accordion. She loved music and was a singer in a gospel group.
She began her future as a seamstress, she worked for Kannon’s in Wendell, NC for approximately 25 years.
Jean and Raymond had 3 beautiful children: Anthony Ray Williams (wife, Denise); Sharon Denise Brown (husband, Ray), Reba Jean Blackley (husband, Tony).
She leaves her 7 grandchildren to cherish her memory: Brittany Victoria Williams, Morgan Bishop Williams, Tonya Michelle Garland, Daniel Ray Brown, Raymond Berl Allen (wife, Vera), Savannah Respess Allen, Christopher Bryan Blackley; 2 great-grand children Alex and Johnathan Garland; Jean also had 2 siblings, brother, Douglas Barrow (wife, Janice); sister, Jeanette Mayo (husband, Guy), Along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Thomas Williams and her parents, MC and Annie Barrow, along with sister, Barbara Anne Buck and 2 infant sisters, Inabelle and Pauline Barrow.
She was devoted to the Lord and her family. Jean was active in her church and looked forward to her homecoming. She lived each day in Christ by teaching Sunday school in her church.
Jean enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren, doing things such as; sports, dance, and family time. She would always be there for them. She attended graduations, weddings, and baby showers. She always showed her love and how proud she was of them. Jean was a great listener and always gave wonderful advice. She will be missed by all whose life she touched, and her legacy will live on through family and friends.
The family will receive friends Tuesday at the funeral home immediately following the service.
