.ROCKY MOUNT – Sally Mae Worrell Braswell, age 88, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2017. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on November 26, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Joe Worrell and Bettie Griffin Worrell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Braswell; sons, Bobby Braswell and Raymond Braswell; brothers, Thurston Worrell, Henry Worrell, John Worrell, and Ernest Worrell; and sisters, Nellie Lynn and Emma Lancaster.

Sally’s heart was always full of happiness and joy which resonated to those around her. Never one to meet a stranger, she always placed other before herself and was known to frequently visit those who were sick or unable to leave their homes. Sally made many relationships and friendships with people around Rocky Mount from her years working at Sears selling shoes until her retirement. A woman of great faith, she and her husband were charter members of Memorial Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Treasurer and enjoyed singing soprano in the church choir. Her outgoing personality was always on hand when she would volunteer at the polls during elections. She enjoyed visiting the Outer Banks with her late husband and enjoyed their second home in Manns Harbor, NC. She was known for her pecan trees and pecan pies and was affectionately called the “Pecan Lady”. Sally was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Sally leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughters, Vicki Braswell Daughtridge of Rocky Mount and Betty Jo Braswell Allen of Castle Hayne. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brian Arrington; Brent Arrington and his wife, Wyndi; Ashley Merritt and her husband, Bradley; Adam Henley and his wife Azusa; Jessica Braswell and her fiancé, Chin; and Caitlin Allen and her husband, Seth; and seven great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Tony Russ officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at The Fountains of the Albemarle for their dedicated service in caring for Sally.
