NASHVILLE – Richard Donald Bieber, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. Born in Emmaus, Lehigh County, PA on October 6, 1932, he was the son of the late Mark Wilson Bieber and Helen Mae Mohr Bieber. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Dolores Jane “Dee” Bieber Renninger and his son-in-law, Gary Wilson.

Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Richard studied classical music throughout his teenage years. While in high school, he played the trumpet for his high school band and was an avid baseball player. Following high school, Richard was drafted in the United States Army during the Korean war and served with the 3rd Armor Division until his honorable separation as an Armor Tech Sergeant. In 1966, he and his family relocated to Rocky Mount to work as a Plant Manager for Rocky Mount Instruments. Richard later retired from Abbott Laboratories following 15 years as a Safety Engineer. Baptized and raised in the Lutheran faith, he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 57 years and was a Mason for 50 years. In addition to his commitment to his church and faith, Richard was also a past President of the Evening Optimist Club of Rocky Mount. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, restoring and refinishing furniture and antiques, building jewelry boxes, and crafting. A dedicated and supportive family man, Richard cherished spending time with his family whether it was camping, boating, spending time outdoors, or attending various sporting events in support of his children and grandson. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and dear friend to many, Richard will be forever remembered and deeply missed.

Richard is survived by his wife of 69 years, Joan S. Niehoff “Joanie” Bieber; his daughters, Valerie Manning (Donnie) and Christine Wilson; his son, Bruce Bieber (Pam); his grandson, Mark Bieber; and his extended family and friends.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Richard’s life will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 11:00 AM in the Trinity Lutheran Church, 433 S. Winstead Ave, Rocky Mount, NC 27804, with Rev. Alice Johnson-Curl officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the service inside Resurrection Hall of Trinity Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made in Richard’s memory to Trinity Lutheran Church, 433 S. Winstead Ave, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
