Rachel Adkins Williams

BATTLEBORO – Rachel Adkins Williams, age 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 peacefully surrounded by her family. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on June 11, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Ervmond Lee Adkins, Sr. and Mabel Etheridge Adkins; her brother, Ervmond Lee “EL” Adkins, Jr.; and her sister, Matilda Adkins Butts.
Rachel and Jimmy were owners of Whitakers Food Center for over 20 years. She was a dedicated member of Gethsemane Baptist Church of Whitakers. Rachel enjoyed traveling and going to casinos playing the slot machines with family and friends. She touched the lives of so many people and will always be remembered with love and kindness. Rachel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Most of all, she was a most wonderful friend, and her heart and spirit will forever be remembered.
Rachel is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jimmy Williams; her daughter, Jamie Williams Ethridge and fiancé, Ken Oliver of Battleboro; her son, Jim Williams and wife, Wendy of Wilmington; her grandson, who was the apple of her eye, Hudson Williams; her nieces, Pasty Miller, Angela Adkins, Leigh Whitley, and Scottie Daughtridge; and her loyal fur baby, Layla, whom she loved dearly.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Rachel’s life will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 11:30 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Dennis Gregory officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
