Michael Avery Wise

NASHVILLE – Michael Avery Wise, age 74, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024.  Born in Pound, VA. on September 18, 1950, he was the son of the late Avery Brown Wise, and Rudy Lee Gardner Wise.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lancaster Wise, and brother Cletis Wise.

Avery was a true enthusiast; his heart was forever captivated by the roar of engines. From the gleaming chrome of classic hotrods to the thrill of racing at Brewers Speedway. He possessed a remarkable knack for taking things apart and putting them back together, a skill honed through countless hours tinkering in his garage. His mechanical skills extended beyond engines, evident in his ability to fix almost anything. Beyond his love for machines, Avery cherished the simple pleasures in life, including his love for fishing. Avery’s evenings were often spent engrossed in classic war movies and beloved western shows.

Avery is survived by his daughter, Melissa Manning (Wayne); his son Michael Wise (Stacey); grandchildren, Jack Bohn, Hannah Bowling (Matt), Caroline Browning, Ian Manning, Grace Manning; great- grandchild, Miller Bowling; sisters, Darlene Smith and Anna Mae Mullins; and many nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service to celebrate Avery’s life will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Rev. Bruce Brumfield officiating.  Visitation with the family will follow the service at the graveside.
