Louvern “Lou” Cohoon Obituary
Rocky Mount –
Louvern “Lou” Martin Cohoon, age 74, passed away Sunday evening, November 24, 2024.
Born March 21, 1950 in Panama City, Florida, Lou was the only daughter of Willie and Eldys Martin. She grew to become a devoted daughter and sister, especially loving and caring for her three brothers in their younger years. She met Bill Cohoon, a handsome USAF Airman, and became his wife on June 22, 1968. They later chose the quiet community of Red Oak, North Carolina to make their home and raise a family.
Lou went to work within the insurance industry, assisting with clerical and office duties and making many friendships along the way. She later took on the role of office manager, working alongside Bill in the family HVAC businesses, Four Seasons Heating and Cooling and Tar River Heating and Cooling. Together, they built a wonderful life and family, embedded with strong traditional values and family bonds, and always appreciating life’s sweet and simple treasures.
Known to be an uncomplicated woman, Lou was a notable cook and ardent reader who easily submersed herself in her Bible and a variety of inspirational works, finding great personal nourishment and guidance within the words and teachings. Her strong foundation of faith deeply nourished her throughout her life and strengthened her essential roles of wife and mother. In every way possible, she was devoted to her Savior and her family and friends. Her heart was powerfully bound to the fellowship and spiritual growth she enjoyed from bible studies, ladies’ ministries, and worship services. She loved her NorthSide Church family and was thankful for their love and friendships. While she will be greatly missed, more than anything, we know she was a precious child of God and has claimed her victory with Jesus.
In addition to her parents, Lou was preceded in death by her brothers, William, Robert, and Darrell Martin; and infant son, Gregory Allen Cohoon.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-six years, William “Bill” Cohoon; daughters, Angela Cohoon Stokes (Robbie) of Red Oak and Jessica Cohoon Daughtridge of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Olivia Daughtridge, Noah Stokes (Rebecca), and Mary Kathryne Baker (Michael); and four great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Lou’s life will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, December 1, 2024 at NorthSide Community Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service, 1:00 – 1:45 pm. Burial will follow at 10:00 am, Monday, December 2 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
