Obituary for Louise Edwards Abernathy
RALEIGH – Louise Edwards Abernathy, age 94, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2016. Born in Nash County, NC on October 22, 1921, she was the daughter of the late R. L. Edwards and Beulah Edwards. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Hubert Abernathy; and her brother, R. L. Edwards.

Louise married her husband, Hubert, on November 21, 1941, and they lived in Rocky Mount until his death. They were active members of First Baptist Church of Rocky Mount and developed many lasting friendships there. Like others of the “Greatest Generation”, Louise believed in the core values of family, work, and responsibility. She was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed socializing with her friends.

Louise leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Jane Abernathy Baker and husband, Dave, of Raleigh; and Judge G. Wayne Abernathy and wife, Gaynelle, of Elon. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Chandler Abernathy Michael and husband, Joseph, of Raleigh; and Hayden Leigh Abernathy and fiancé, Daniel, of Alexandria, VA.; sister, Juanita E. Whitehead; and nieces, Bonnie Whitehead and Dee Davis; and her nephew, Jeff Whitehead.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. William Grisham officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Rocky Mount, 200 S. Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 or charity of your choice.
