Lillian Joyner Batts, 85, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013. She was born in Nash County on March 2, 1928 to the late John Emerson Gold and Rosa Ella Culpepper Joyner.
She was a member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church and a long-term member of Calvary Baptist Church. Lillian was a member of West Mount Ruritan Ladies Auxiliary, Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Women’s Circle of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. She also gave graciously her time by volunteering for Meal on Wheels.
Surviving are her daughters, Susan Sutton and husband, Larry of Wendell, Lynn Benson and husband, Marty of Rocky Mount; sons, Tommy Batts, John Batts and wife, Debbie, all of Rocky Mount; brothers, Gold Joyner, Jr. of Rocky Mount, Jesse Joyner of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Allyson, Lillie, Gray, Stephen (Melissa), Sarah (Casey), Daniel, Rebecca (Phillip), and Jessica; great-children, Alex and Chad.
The family will receive friends and family Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
A funeral service to remember Lillian will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dan Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, 1460 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27803.
