Irene Cockrell Brantley

Irene Cockrell Brantley, age 96, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, November 15, 2021. Born in Nash County, NC on October 17, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Russell C. Cockrell and Gladys Deans Cockrell. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Roy Garland Brantley; her daughter, Carolyn Brantley Moessen; her brothers, Russell D. Cockrell, Harold Lee Cockrell, and Douglas T. Cockrell; and her sisters, Alipia C. Faircloth and Betty Jane Page.

Irene is survived by her son, Dr. Jeffrey G. Brantley (Mary) of Durham; her brothers, Bennett Carlton Cockrell of Rocky Mount and Waylon G. Cockrell (Linda) of Raleigh; her sister, Victoria C. Collins; her sister-in-law, Becky Cockrell of Winterville; and several nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service to celebrate Irene’s life will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Chapel on the Hill Mausoleum with her brother, Rev. Carlton Cockrell officiating. The family will be available to receive friends and relatives immediately following the service in the Chapel Mausoleum until 12:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Irene’s memory to Englewood United Methodist Church, 300 S. Circle Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 or to a charity of one’s choice.
