VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Glenn Thompson, age 78, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024. He was the son of the late Ira Thompson & Isabelle Watkins-Thompson. Glenn was born on November 29, 1945, welcomed by a family of siblings, Mary Louis Moss, Bernice Colbert, Daniel Ray, Emitt, Billy Talmadge, Jerry Jackson, and then came Alvin. Now they are all together again in paradise.
Glenn was raised in the Swelton Heights section of Rocky Mount. After moving to Virginia Beach, VA in 1988, he raised his family and made this his home for the rest of his life. Glenn served honorably in the United States Navy and was called to serve in the Vietnam War. While serving on the USS Sacramento & USS Camden, he traveled to the Philippines, Hawaii, Guam, Seattle, Australia, China, and Japan. He met his shipmates and life-long friends, John Rouse and Ronnie Wright, and remained close friends through the years. Glenn retired from a rewarding career as an Operations Manager with Southern Pest Control. His dedication and loyalty of 33 years helped build the company into a nationwide success. Glenn was the funniest person on the face of the planet. He was kind, generous and selfless. Glenn would only buy the newspaper for the word puzzles, and he was an excellent speller. He loved deep sea fishing with his brothers, raw oysters, and fried fish. Glenn loved everyone and was loved by all that knew him. He was a great man, a loving husband, a good friend, and the greatest father ever known.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nora M. Thompson; his two sons, Christopher G. Thompson and husband, Jose, and Kevin Thompson; his four grandchildren, Crystal, Amber, Sapphire, and Bradford; his two great-grandchildren, Thailar and Jasper; and his special brother-in-law, Grover “Groovy” Smith.
