Rocky Mount – Genevieve Joyner Pridgen, age 88, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026.  Born in Nash County, NC on January 30, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie Freeman Joyner and Olive “Ollie” Joyner.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Norman Lee Pridgen; her son, Don Lee Pridgen; her sisters, Eunice Joyner Robbins and Marjorie “Margie” Joyner Bone; and her brothers, Charlie “Lee” Joyner, Atlas Joyner, Aaron Joyner, Clarence Joyner, George Joyner, William “Gorham” Joyner, and Bobby “Warnell” Joyner.

A woman of great faith, Genevieve was a long-time member of Sandy Cross United Methodist Church.  She retired after over 20 years from Fast Food Merchandiser.  Always the first to offer a loving hand, Genevieve made it a point to reach out to help all those around her.  In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time out in her yard and garden, and she especially loved creating long lasting memories with her family and friends.  A devoted and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend to many, Genevieve will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Genevieve is survived by her daughter, Gayle Pridgen Evans; her grandchildren, Emily Sloop (John), Chad Matthew Evans (Laurena), and Lee Pridgen; her two great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dearest friends.
