Edgar Ellis Williams Jr.
Edgar Ellis Williams, Jr., a retired building contractor in Raleigh and Rocky Mount, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, at the of 76. Mr. Williams was born Jan. 21, 1924 in Nash County. He was the son of the late Edgar Ellis Williams Sr. and Rachel Dunn Williams.
He is survived by his wife Edna Warren Williams; a son, Kenneth Wayne Williams, of Rocky Mount; a daughter. Jane Davenport, of Nashville; four grandchildren, Kenneth Wayne Williams Jr., of Berkley, Calif., Keith Warren Williams, of Boise, Idaho, Jennifer Joyce Williams, of Rocky Mount, and Amy Davenport of Nashville; and three great-grandchildren. A son, E. Craig Williams, preceded him in death.
After he graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School in 1942. Mr. Williams enlisted in the Navy and served in World War II in the Pacific. Mr. Williams coached midget football for many years, was a former deacon at Arlington Baptist Church and was an active member of the Rocky Mount High School Class of 1942 Alumni Association.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Arlington Baptist Church with the Rev. William Tomlinson officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home and other times at the home, 3816 Brittany Court, Rocky Mount.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Arlington Baptist Church, 1500 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27H03, or the Kate Parks Kitchin Scholarship Fund, Class of 1942, in care of W. Carlyle Gay, 956 Tarboro Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27801.
