Eddie Whitley, Jr.

Eddie Whitley, Jr., age 92, passed away on Friday, September 2, 2016. Born in Wilson County, NC on March 24, 1924, he was the son of the late Eddie Thomas Whitley and Bessie Griffin Whitley. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Louise Whitley; son, Lee Whitley; daughter, Deborah Paine; granddaughter, Carla Whitley; brothers, Clyde Whitley; David Whitley; Harvey Whitley; Norman Whitley; and Kenneth Whitley; and sisters, Esther W. Wiggins; Virginia W. Balkeum; Frances W. Edwards; Margaret W. Martin; and Ethel W. McSwan.

In his younger years, Eddie farmed. He also worked for the railroad for over 50 years. His family was most important to him and enjoyed spending time with them. Eddie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Eddie leaves behind to cherish his memory, son, Ronnie Whitley and wife, Carol, of Rocky Mount. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christopher Whitley; Brigette Pridgen and husband, Sammy; Lance Whitley; Lindsey Alligood and husband, Howard; and Tiffany Paine; several great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen W. Swindle of Rocky Mount and Mavis W. Lanier of Rocky Mount; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Dr. David Whitley officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and relatives Monday, September 5, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
