NASHVILLE – Charles “Buddy” Preston Brantley, 70, passed away Monday, June 24, 2002. He was born November 18, 1931 in Nash County, son of the late Sam Preston and Aggie Bell Williams Brantley. Buddy was a member of Bones Tabernacle Church. He was a retired Master Sergeant with the U.S. Army with 22 years of service, a POW Tiger Survivor of the Korean War, and he also served in Vietnam. He was a member of VFW Post 2057 and the American Legion. He was also a retired supervisor at the main post office in Rocky Mount. Buddy was known by all of his friends and family as the “Tomato Bunny”, because of all the secret bags of tomatoes he would leave, on their porches.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Louise Brantley, of the home; his daughters, Judy Brantley House and husband, Graham, of Red Oak, and Linda Brantley Huggins of Wilmington, DE; his sisters, Helen Perry and husband, Tom, and Lila Brantley Lewis, both of Rocky Mount, and Mildred Sanders and husband, John, and Christine Schwenk both of Richmond, VA; his brother, P.A. Brantley and wife, Gloria, of Nashville; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The family received friends Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at 7:00 1o 8:30 p.m. at Bowling Funeral Home, and other times at the home. Graveside services will be Thursday, June 27, 2002 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Woody Jones officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Bowling Funeral Home and Crematory, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
