Bertha was born on May 8, 1926, and grew up on a farm in Nash County. She later moved to Rocky Mount and made many friends while working at Schotland Mills, Rocky Mount Mills, and Abbott Laboratories. Because of her outgoing personality and love of people, she also thrived while selling Compton’s Encyclopedias, Sarah Coventry jewelry, and Avon. She loved traveling throughout the country and Europe with her husband, Sam. Following his death, Bertha relocated to Cary to be with her daughter. She became involved in her community there and was a faithful member of Green Level Baptist Church. During her 97 years here on this earth, she experienced heartbreaking lows and many, many joyous highs. She loved her family and her God. What a wonderful journey it was and now continues to be in the presence of her Savior!

Bertha is survived by one daughter, Linda Eason Peele and husband, Michael; two grandsons, Adam Peele and wife, Hiromi and Mark Peele and partner, Ashton Drew, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her children by her marriage to Samuel Boswell, Donald Boswell and wife, Kathy, George Speight, and James Speight; grandchildren, Kristen Coggin and husband, Myers, Lauren McGee and husband, Trent, Kathryn Boswell, Tommy Speight and wife, Regina, Brooks Speight, Donna Lynn and husband, Steven, Keith Speight and wife, Betty, Jeff Speight and wife, Karen, Frank Glover and wife, Debbie, Kay Wester and husband, Richard; 18 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren, and 2 great-great-great grandchildren.
