Obituary for Mrs. Bernice B. Allen
As the sun rises each day and completes its cycle before sunset, so to – on the day of Tuesday, September 15, 2020 – Bernice Berry Allen completed her cycle of life on this earth.
Bernice was born to the late Thomas J and Dorothy W. Berry on January 20, 1950 in Bronx, New York. She was the fourth of six children. Preceded in death by her son Brian C. Jones, two brothers, Fredrick Wright, Thomas J. Berry, Jr., sister, Janice B. Martin. She leaves to mourn her memory her husband James Allen Jr., her children Ronald Allen Jones, John Allen Felder (Cintia), Nakia Rattray, April Golden (Miya), James Allen III (April) and siblings Stephen Berry (Diane) and Linda McKeiver.
Bernice graduated Grace H. Dodge Vocational High School in The Bronx, New York. After graduation she began her first job as a teller at Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City. In 1982, she was blessed with her first son Brian Christopher Jones. The role of motherhood was her greatest joy. In 1988, she met her life partner James Allen Jr. and they became a blended family with Nakia, April, Baby James and Brian. April of 1990, they welcomed a son Ronald Allen Jones. With more than enough love to share, James and Bernice welcomed John Allen Felder into their blended family.
While juggling being a wife and mother, Bernice was promoted several times during her 34-years of service at JP Morgan Chase. She retired in 2002 as a Portfolio Associate within the Estate Planning Division. Ready to escape the fast pace of the city for retired life, Bernice and James moved to Rocky Mount, NC. The epitome of class. Bernice was stylish to a fault. She loved nice clothes, but shoes were her passion. Her ability to coordinate an outfit with a pair of shoes was flawless. Having an eye for fashion led her and Debra Henry to enjoy many trips of shopping during their longtime friendship. Retired life suited Bernice, she was able to cruise and take many road trips with her family. Always one to host a family gathering, Thanksgiving, 4th of July, Super Bowl Party and the best family cookouts sharing the traditions of Grandma Berry. She was the ultimate host.
Today, we celebrate her life along with her aforementioned children as well as her grandchildren: Shanihya Felder, Jayda Allen, Kameron Slade, Rashaan Felder, Ayden Felder, Page Legrand, Jonah Slade, Camryn Felder, Cassy Dana Olivera, Cassandra April Olivera, Nakia Nesbitt, Nathaniel Nisbett, Joyce Rattray and Brooklyn Jones. Her godchildren: Eric Martin, Shaheem Martin, Nicole Russell and Ciara Brannon along with host of nephews, nieces and friends.
