ROCKY MOUNT-Bennett Berry Lewis, age 84, surrounded by his family, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

Bennett was born on April 3, 1940, in Rocky Mount – living his entire life in Edgecombe County.  He was the son of the late Lee Berry and Gusta Mosley Lewis.   He was also preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Marjorie Dew Lewis; his brother, Ronald “Ronnie” Allen Lewis, and sister, Kathleen “Kay” Lewis Rose.

Bennett devoted his life to his family, his passions, and his community. A man of unwavering love and dedication, he led a very successful career in the insurance industry, starting with Life of Virginia and spending the vast majority with Farm Bureau Insurance, earning the trust and respect of his clients and colleagues alike.

An avid outdoorsman, Bennett found joy in hunting turkey, deer, and rabbit, often sharing those cherished moments with his children, grandchildren, sons-in-law and many other friends and family. Rabbit hunting was a particular passion, and he took great pride in raising and training his beloved rabbit dogs, who were his loyal companions on countless hunting trips. He also loved to fish, especially with his family and friends. His love for the outdoors was matched by his love for family, especially watching his grandsons play baseball and creating memories with all his family and friends.

At the grill, Bennett enjoyed cooking pork chops and chicken for Sunday lunch, and pigs on special occasions. Holidays were especially meaningful, as he opened his home to celebrate Christmas, Easter, and July 4th with warmth, laughter, and incredible meals.  Above all, Bennett will be remembered for the love he brought to every relationship. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and countless cherished memories.

To cherish his memory, Bennett leaves behind his daughters, Lisa Lewis Pridgen (Wayne) and Amanda Lewis Evans (Mark); his son, Bennett Berry Lewis ll (Kim); his grandchildren, David Pridgen (Nikki), Marisa Pridgen, Jacob Pridgen, Tommy Evans and Seth Evans; his brothers, Jimmy Arthur Lewis (Linnie), Johnny Lee Lewis, Peter “Pete” Calvin Lewis (Lesa); his brother-in-law, Earl Rose; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and good friends whom he loved dearly.

He will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
