Nashville – Arvid “Billy” Dalton Dunn, age 91, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026. Born in Nash County, NC on August 26, 1935, he was the son of the late Arvid Monroe Dunn and Mary Edith Strickland Dunn. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Franklin Dunn and his sisters, Geraldine Dunn Stancil Worrell, Edith “E.J.” Dunn Cooper, Daphine Dunn Craft, and Cora Lee Dunn Rollins.
A devout Catholic and man of great unfaltering faith, Billy was a long-time member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. He firmly believed in and followed his core credo and guiding light of “God, Family, and Country”. Billy served in the United States Army, graduated from Campbell College with a degree in business, and began his career which spanned nearly 45 years working for Pearsall Operating Company and First Carolina Management as a Financial Controller until his retirement. Always present, always dedicated, always supportive, and not once ever wavering, he prioritized his wife and family above all else. Together with his wife, he made his home a place where friends and family always felt welcomed. Blessed with a great sense of humor and a quick wit, his clever remarks could put a smile on anyone’s face. He lived with integrity and conviction, offering thoughtful guidance and steady support to those around him. A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and good friend to many, Billy will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
Billy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris Faye Evans Dunn; his children, Lorri Trail (Mark) of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Bill Dunn (Bill Godfrey) of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Daphne Autrey (Gary) of Creedmoor, and Beverly Joyner (Edward) of Rocky Mount, whom he loved and cherished as a daughter. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jesse Evan Taylor of Tacoma, WA, Matthew Autrey (Robyn) of Franklinton, Hannah Taylor of Statesville, Samuel Autrey of Conover, Robert Trail (Brenna) of Clayton, Harris Trail of Raleigh, Chris Wiggs of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and Robbie Olivier of London, Ontario, Canada; his great grandchildren, Kayleigh Rose Taylor of Matthews and Sebastian “Bash” Autrey of Franklinton; his sister, Peggy Dunn Lynch of Rocky Mount; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and good friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Billy’s life will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 315 Hammond St, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Rev. Father Paul Nicholas Cottrill officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Billy’s name to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 315 Hammond St, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
