William Thomas Cherry

October 4, 1941 ~ October 11, 2024

William Elbert Cherry, 83, passed away October 11, 2024. He was born October 4, 1941 to the late Elbert and Lottie Wheeler Cherry. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Rosa Zammiello Cherry; sisters Lottie Ruth, Marie Ford, Louise Ezzell, Nancy Strickland and Margie Mangum; brothers Edward and Allen Cherry.

William leaves to cherish his memory his daughters Laurie Grimes and Tammy Davis (Jeff); grandchildren William Wade Cherry (Carolina), Jessica Powell (Steven), Austin Grimes (Alyssa); great grandchildren Isabella, Shianna, Matteo, Valentina, Mckenly, Sophia and Eden; sister Barbara Jones (Charles); brother Roger Cherry; many other family members, nieces, nephews and close friends, especially Robbie Hinson, Joel and Jackson Boseman.

When we talk about William, he was known by many aka’s, “Buddy, Bill, Pepa, and Daddy”. He was a people person and loved to talk to anyone that would talk back to him. He loved the outdoors and was honored to work for Joel Boseman for many years. He retired from Ceco Building Division after working for them 38 years. His grandkids were his life and delight as well as the great grandkids as they came along. He was always wanting to make sure they had all they needed. A grandson’s special memory was when he and Pepa would go walking to the pond and the stories they shared along the way. A grand daughter remembers the special rides down the path on his favorite truck. He was a very selfless man doing anything for anybody. A special thank you to all who spoke a kind word, called, brought food, and those who prayed for our family.

A visitation will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at Cornerstone Funeral Home. The service will follow at 2:00pm with Rev. Mike Cherry officiating. The burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
