William “Bill” Spain, Sr. Obituary

Rocky Mount –

William “Bill” Spain, age 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at Rocky Mount Rehab in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He was born on July 17, 1949 in Edgecombe County to Harvey and Ruby Simms Spain. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Marvin Lewis Spain and Dennis Ray Spain.

He made his living as a successful and well known automotive body repair man, a greatly sought after skill that often came in handy as his children ventured into the driving world. Throughout his life, Bill never made his sacrifices seem like burdens. He loved his Lord and his family and lived in a way that his strength never demanded attention; it was quiet, steady and absolutely unshakable. He was a man with simple tastes, enjoying many simple pleasures that included watching boxing (especially Muhammad Ali), music that varied from southern gospel to bluegrass, and the calm serenity that came from watching beautiful sunsets and spectacular hummingbirds in flight. He developed a passionate love for reading that his children also gratefully inherited.

Bill is survived by his son, William R. “Ron” Spain, Jr.; daughters, Tammy Adams and husband, John, all of Rocky Mount, and Michele Moore and husband, John of Newnan, Georgia; and brother, Milton Earl “Red” Casper and wife, Cheryl, also of Rocky Mount.

Bill will also be missed by his grandchildren, Johnathan Tyler Adams, Joshua Moore, April Moore and fiancé, Sean, Kai Moore, and Dylan Moore; great-granddaughter, Luna Rothrock; along with several nieces, nephews and other extended relatives.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank Amedysis Hospice and Rocky Mount Rehab for the excellent care our father received.
