November 6, 1933 – February 24, 2020
ROCKY MOUNT – Thomas “Lane” Harrell, Sr., age 86, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2020. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on November 6, 1933, he was the son of the late Thomas Farrow Harrell and Rosa Owens Harrell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Overbey Harrell; and nephew, Wayne Walston.
Lane enjoyed going to yard sales and collecting antiques. He was a faithful member of Cornerstone Independent Baptist Church and loved his church family. Lane was a devoted father and father-in-law and a doting grandfather and will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.
Lane leaves behind to cherish his memory, son, Thomas “Tommy” Lane Harrell, Jr. and wife, Christie, of Rocky Mount. He is also survived by granddaughters, Lillie Grace Harrell and Emma Carter; nieces and nephews, James Walston and wife, Marcia, Linda Carroll and husband, Ronald, Dorothy Walston and husband, Skip, Shirley Smith and husband, Dalton, J.R. Deans and wife, Charlotte, and J.C. Hathaway, wife, Joyce and Judy Walston.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 11:30 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Michael Willard and Pastor Finley Cutshaw officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
