Thomas Knight

Mr. Thomas Knight, 78, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, died on June 8, 2015 at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount, N.C. Thomas Knight also referred to as “Bo” was born on February 27, 1937 in Halifax County, North Carolina to father, Nathaniel Knight and mother, Mamie Ruffin Knight who predeceased him. He grew up in a loving family with three brothers and four sisters.In 1960, Thomas moved to Jamaica, New York to live with his brother, Nathan Knight Jr. He and Odell continued their five year courtship before becoming married on July 15, 1961.Thomas first job was at the Strauss Department Store in Long Island, New York. From there, he moved his family to Freeport, New York where he was employed at Gateway Tire Company where he became a skilled mechanic at building tires.On August 25, 1972, Thomas and family returned to his home state where he was employed with Burlington Industries as a Machine Operator. He then worked as a mechanic before going into early retirement as a result of lumbar injuries.When diagnosed with cancer two years ago, he remained steadfast in his will to fight his illness. At age seventy-eight, Thomas Knight departed this earthly life on Monday, June 8, 2015 at Nash Healthcare System in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Thomas was a resolute man, even until his very last moments.He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Charlie Knight; sister, Virginia Knight; sister, Mamie Knight; brother, Nathan Knight Jr.; sister, Lucy Richardson and brother, Johnny Knight. Thomas was the last brother to carry the Knight name.Thomas leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Odell Pittman Knight of the home; daughters, Valery Elizabeth Knight and Sheila Lorraine Sweet; three granddaughters, Niquandra Barrios, Donneshia Sweet and Brittany Battle all of Rocky Mount, NC; his sister, Mary Della Wolfe of North Babylon, NY; papas baby and little doctor, Jamyzeon Brockington, a host of nieces, nephews and in-laws.A Visitation for Mr. Knight will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the Funeral Service following the Visitation, beginning at 12:00 p.m., on Saturday, June 13, 2015 in the Rocky Mount Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. The Interment will take place immediately after the service in Rocky Mount Memorial Park in Rocky Mount, N.C. These professional services have been entrusted to H.D. A Visitation for Mr. Knight will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the Funeral Service following the Visitation, beginning at 12:00 p.m., on Saturday, June 13, 2015 in the Rocky Mount Chapel of H.D.
