Thomas “Tom” H. Smith, Jr., 82, of Rocky Mount, NC and most recently Orlando, Fl, went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, July 6, 2012 peacefully in the beautiful NC Mountains. He was born April 11, 1930 in Nash County, Rocky Mount. Tom was the son of the late Thomas H. Smith, Sr. and Mary Parker Smith.
Tom loved his Lord and Savoir, Jesus Christ, loved his family and love his country. He was a monnitted husband to his wife of 54 years, Jerry, before she met her Lord on September 23, 2010. He loved his son, Tommy, and daughter, Betsy, his grandchildren, Rachel, Adam, and Andrew, son-in-law Doug and all family members in many ways for many years. He loved animals, namely Peggy Sue, Charlie, and Sadie, was a great story teller, an Eagle Scout, a veteran of the Korean War and an avid golfer and gardener. He and Jerry were also charter members of Falls Road Baptist Church. He spent many years demonstrating his love for Jesus Christ in ways unique to Tom. His impact upon the lives of his immediate family, relatives and friends will remain forever.
He is preceded in Death by his loving and devoted wife, Jerry Renfrow Smith and his sister, Mary Ann Inscoe. He is survived by his son, Thomas “Tommy” H. Smith, III of Rocky Mount, NC;his daughter, Betsy S. Miller and husband Douglas; his grandchildren, Rachael, Adam and Andrew, all of Orlando, Fl. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Jean Renfrow Botzis; nieces, Krista and Gina Botzis; nephew, Michael Botzis and their father, Peter A. Botzis, all of Greensboro, NC; and very special companions, Peggy Sue, Charlie and Sadie.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am on Friday, July 13, 2012 at Johnson Funerals and Cremations on 661 Wnglish Road. Funeral services will be held immediately following visitation at 11:00 am. His son, Tommy, will be officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
