Ruby Baker Hearne

ROCKY MOUNT – Ruby Baker Hearne, age 82, passed away on Monday, May 8, 2023. Born in Lancaster County, SC on July 5, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Rodgers Alec Baker, Sr. and Virginia Rollings Baker. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Joe Cornelius Hearne, Sr.; and her brothers, Rodgers Alec Baker, Jr. and Marvin Alexander Baker.

Ruby retired with Abbott Laboratories after a 22-year career in Quality Control. She was a longtime member of Englewood United Methodist Church and served in many capacities including the choir, hand bells, prayer blankets, and bereavement. Ruby was an avid reader and she loved to walk, especially at Myrtle Beach. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, and will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Ruby is survived by her sons, Joe “Joey” Cornelius Hearne, Jr. and wife, Casey, of Spring Grove, VA and James “Jimmy” Christopher Hearne and wife, Stephanie, of Rocky Mount; her grandchildren, Brysun Hearne and wife, Alaina, Jordan Webb and wife, Jordan, Joshua Webb and wife, Victoria, Hannah West, and Austin West; and her great-grandchildren, Landen Webb and Colesyn Webb.

A Celebration of Ruby’s Life will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Keith Griffin officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home until 1:00 PM.

A Private Family Inurnment Service will take place at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Garden of Memories Mausoleum.
