Sharpsburg – Robert Lee Rose, age 90, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025.  Born in Nash County, NC on September 8, 1935, he was the son of the late Joseph Edgar Rose and Viola Williams Rose.  He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret Earle Rose Edwards, Minnie Mae Rose Winstead Turner, and Mabel Alice Rose Proctor.

A longtime member of Arlington Baptist Church, Robert was also a member of the American Legion amongst other organizations throughout his life.  He enlisted in the United States Air Force serving four years to his country before enlisting in the North Carolina Army National Guard.  Robert retired from military service with a combined total of 25 years as a Master Sergeant.  Additionally, he worked for the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 1992 after 32 years.  Over the years, Robert loved to travel and absolutely cherished his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and good friend to many, Robert will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Robert is survived by his wife of 66 years, Frances “Pat” Proctor Rose; his daughters, Cheryl McRainey (Trip) of Wilson and Crystal Rose (Kevin Sanderson) of Wilmington; his grandchildren, Rev. Patrick Speight (Taylor) of Roanoke, VA, Rebecca Speight of Morristown, TN, and Kirsten Hodgson (Kyle) of Wilmington; his great-grandchildren, Harrison Speight and Raiden Hodgson; his brother, James Edgar Rose; his faithful fur-companion, Sandy; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and good friends.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Robert’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804, with his grandson, Rev. Patrick Speight officiating and Rev. Mike Stamper co-officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.  Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
