Robert Lee Pittman, 85, passed away Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004. He was born Feb. 2, 1919, in Wilson County, son of the late Paul Annual Pittman and Maude Thorne Pittman. Mr. Pittman was a member of Nashville Praise and Worship Center. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he proudly served during WWII. He was a proficient auto mechanic at Proctors Garage for over 18 years, before going to work as a mechanic with the city of Rocky Mount, where he retired from in 1981. He was a loom fixer at Shotland Mills and Rocky Mount Mills. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gertrude Peacock and Kathalene Baxley; and two brothers, Herman and Linwood Pittman.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Erline F. Pittman; one daughter, Ella Jeanette Allen and husband, Richard of Rocky Mount; sons, Charles Annual Pittman and wife, Betty of Rocky Mount, Robert Wayne Pittman of Emerald Isle and William Carson Pittman and wife, Barbara of Rocky Mount; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren in the states of North Carolina, Virginia, California, and the country of South Africa.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at Bowling Funeral Home, with Dr. Kenneth Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
