Robert L. Sykes

Robert Lee Sykes Sr., 78, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997.
He was born Dec. 17, 1918, in Chowan County, son of the late William Henry and Lula Collie Sykes. An Army Air Corp veteran, he was a member of the American Legion. He was a retired restaurant owner. Surviving: wife, Hazel D. Sykes. He was preceded in death by a son, Robby Sykes. Also surviving are: son and daughter-in-law, Dr. John and Kim Sykes of Wilmington; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Wright Erdmann and her husband, David of Greenville; daughter-in-law, Martha L. Sykes of Rocky Mount; granddaughter, Leigh Sykes of Rocky Mount; grandson, Brent Sykes of Raleigh; brothers, O.R. Sykes and Milton Sykes, both of Rocky Mount, Malcom Sykes of Goldsboro.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. William V. Grisham officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home, Sunset Ave., other times at the home, 100 Rosewood Ave.
