Rev. George Howard Moore, Sr.

ROCKY MOUNT – Rev. George Howard Moore, Sr., age 75, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 24, 2022. Born in Pitt County, NC on July 11, 1946, he was the son of the late Gilbert Ashley Moore and Lou Ellen Fleming Moore. He was also preceded in death by his sons, David Christopher Moore and Rod Jones; his grandson, C. J. Jones; his brothers, Roland Moore, John Moore, and William Moore; his sister, Evelyn Moore Smith; and his stepfather, Joe Griffin.
Rev. Moore served overseas in Vietnam in the US Army. After his service he became the owner and operator of G & L Electric in 1987. Ordained in 2005, Rev. Moore was the Pastor at Bethany Baptist Church in Sharpsburg for 17 years. An overall kind and gentle soul, he always would go out of his way to help others in need and share the good words of his Lord and Savior. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and Shephard, Rev. Moore will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him and never forgotten.
George is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Mary “Lois” Bridges Moore; his son, George Howard Moore, Jr. and wife, Tina of Whitakers; his grandchildren, Hunter Moore, David Moore, Chad Moore, Jacob Anderson, Cassadie Jones, Caleb Jones, Savanna Jones, and Riki Jones; his great-grandchild, Rylan Pochar; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service to celebrate George’s life will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Dr. Bobby Carden officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, May 26, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
