ROCKY MOUNT – Phyllis Ellis Moore, age 83, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026. Born in Nash County, NC on October 15, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Luther Battle Ellis and Lena Mae Bradshaw Ellis. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Robert “Buddy” Edward Moore, Jr.
Phyllis faithfully worked alongside her husband, Buddy, in their family business, Buddy Moore Builder and Realty for over 25 years, where Phyllis was the heart of the operation. She was a longtime and devoted member of Englewood Baptist Church, where her love for the Lord was evident in both her service and her relationships. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, she faithfully served and led a widowers’ group, offering compassion, encouragement, and steady leadership. She remained deeply committed to her Sunday School class and treasured the fellowship of her church family. Family was central to Phyllis’s life. She loved serving her family in any way she could and found immense joy in traveling, shopping, and creating meaningful memories together. She especially adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, delighting in every moment spent with them. She also had a lifelong fondness for ice cream, something all should remember fondly. Phyllis valued relationships deeply. She stayed closely connected with her high school friends throughout the years and shared a special bond with her siblings, cherishing the time they spent together going out and enjoying life. Her love, faith, and servant’s heart left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Phyllis is survived by her son, Jason Moore and wife, Casey; her daughter, Robin Moore Bowling and husband, Sam; her grandchildren, Matthew Scott Bowling (Hannah), Timothy Robert Bowling (Sommer), Thomas Gray Bowling (Reagan), and Olivia Noelle Bowling; her great-grandchildren, Charlie Paige Bowling, Collins Elise Bowling, Miller Scott Bowling, and Miles Sutton Bowling; her brother, Keith Ellis and wife, Jessie; her sisters, Joan Wall and Sheila Trevathan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
