Peggy Nelms Aycock Thomas Butler, age 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, January 28, 2021. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on March 26, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Doris Nelms Childers. She was also preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Gurney Aycock and Ron Thomas.

Peggy attended Rocky Mount City Schools. She focused on raising her family and caring for her grandchildren. Later in life, she enjoyed working with the public, and most recently was a valued staff member of Big Lots in Rocky Mount before she retired.

Peggy is survived by her beloved husband, Chester Butler of Washington; son, Greg Aycock of Rocky Mount; and daughter, Robin Miller and her husband, Russell, also of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Garrett Aycock and fiancé Hayleigh, Halie Miller, Daniel Aycock, and Gracie Miller; and her uncle, James Nelms and his wife, Eunice. The Butler family welcomed her with loving arms, and she treasured her time with them. Peggy also loved her extended family of “Aycock” sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. She cherished and valued her many friendships, as she truly never met a stranger and treated all of her loved ones like family.
