Marie Vlk Winner, 68 passed away Tuesday, February 18th 2014. She was born December 29th, 1945 in Petersburg General Hospital, Petersburg, VA to the late Anthony Joseph Sr and Marie Hanzlik Vlk.
She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Rocky Mount NC.
She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Frederick Prokop Winner, and her 14 children: Michael Winner and wife Marcie of Tallahassee, FL, Timothy Winner of Castalia, Cynthia Lawrence and husband William of Nashville, Brian Winner and wife Linda of Eagle River, Alaska, Diane Jones and husband Eric of Nashville, Christopher Winner and wife Melissa of Battleboro, Katherine Davis and husband Michael of Rocky Mount, Jeremy Winner and wife Heather of Rocky Mount, Susan Wilder and husband Lee of Castalia, Karen Ayscue and husband Rodney of Castalia, Jason Winner and wife Leslie of Wilmington, Lisa Carpenter and husband Chris of Castalia, Jennifer Harrell and husband Chason of Nashville, TN, and Joseph Winner of Castalia; and 17 grandchildren.
In 1984, the Knights of Columbus honored the Winners as International Family of the Year for their involvement in church and school activities under the direction of Marie.
As the oldest of eight children, Marie also leaves to cherish her memory, her siblings: Betty Dubovsky, Patsy Blackburn, Carol Martin, Theresa Hubert, Tony Vlk, Ann Woods, and Paul Vlk, all of Prince George, Va, along with their families and many nieces and nephews.
Rosary service will be held at 7:00pm on Friday, February 21st, at Johnson’s Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8:30pm. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11am on Saturday, February 22nd at OLPH Catholic Church in Rocky Mount. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Cemetery with Father Tim Meares officiating. A reception will be held at OLPH reception hall following burial.
Council #4600 of the Knights of Columbus is providing pall bearers and the 4th degree honor guard is provided by Assembly 1899.
In lieu of flowers, and to honor Marie’s devotion to her faith, memorial donations are requested to be made to the Brianna McLaughlin Memorial Scholarship Fund at OLPH Catholic School 331 Hammond Street, Rocky Mount NC 27803.
