Mae Winstead Stephenson

AHOSKIE, NC – Mae Winstead Stephenson, age 76, of Ahoskie, died on February 26, 2017 at the Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital of Ahoskie, NC.
Mrs. Stephenson was born in Nash County on September 19, 1940, a daughter of the late Clyde and Bunney Whitley Winstead. She was a homemaker who loved to cook for family and friends. Mae was one who had never met a stranger, was friendly to everyone and loved doing for others, always putting herself last.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Ray Stephenson, and her siblings.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Brenda H. Holloman and husband, Johnnie of Colerain, NC; two sons, Jimmie Reginal (Rita) Hawkins and wife, Rita of Taylorsville, NC, Dariel Byrd and wife, Vera of Greenville, NC; four granddaughters, Jerri Lynn Byrd, Laura Sandoval, Maryjo Sadler, and Kristin Buck; three Grandsons, David Byrd, Matt Reese and wife, Amy, and Aaron Holloman; six great granddaughters, Amiya Byrd, Jaden Prichard, Jezlyn Parson, Kaleigh Buck, Kolbi Buck, Rylee Holloman, and Journey Rayborn; three great grandsons, Levi Sandoval, Caleb Brown, and Cutler Buck; and her very special friend, her dog, Niland.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC.
A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at 1:00 pm at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie Chapel, with Rev. Roger McDaniels, officiating. Burial will follow in Rocky Mount Memorial Park, Rocky Mount, NC
