November 26, 1936 ~ March 21, 2026

Lois Langley Dixon passed away peacefully in her home with Emmy and Chuck by her side on Saturday, March 21. Mama was born on November 25, 1936, the youngest of six children born to Willie Lindsey Langley and Emma Baker Langley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Dixon in 1999, and by her son, Doyle Dixon in 2023. She was also predeceased by each of her five siblings and their spouses, Marvin Ambro Langley (Frances), Eunice Langley Batchelor (W.T.), Doris Langley Lindsey (Hubert), Thurman Willie Langley (Mae), and Carolyn Langley Harrell (Bill).

She is survived by her daughter, Emmy Dixon Hurst and husband Chuck, of Wake Forest; after the death of her son, she lovingly referred to Emmy and Chuck as “My children”. Also left to remember her is a special sister-in-law, Madeline Dixon Harris of Virginia, as well as many nieces, nephews, and loving friends; any attempt at naming them all would result in someone being inadvertently left out, and as Mama would so often say “I don’t want to hurt anybody’s feelings”. Treasured by her were two exceptionally caring and compassionate friends, Myrna Joyner and Ella Pittman, who helped make it possible for Mama to remain in her home those final months of her life; thank you for your kindness, patience, care, and love for which we will be eternally grateful.

Mama retired from Nash Health Care and was an active member of West Mount Baptist Church for many years. She loved both her family and friends, and found great satisfaction in working, being productive, and doing for others. The final weeks of Mama’s life were bittersweet. How she loved all of the many visitors and phone calls, some of whom visited or called often and others who visited or called to simply tell her good-bye. Thanks to those of you who shared your time and efforts in making her feel so special with the kind words, cards, flowers, food, and special treats.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity which helps those who are less fortunate than are we.

A service to commemorate her life will be held at Rocky Mount Memorial Park in the Chapel Of Memories on Wednesday, March 25 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Tim Hogan and Gary Pettet officiating.

. You are asked to visit with the family and each other either immediately before or after the service.
