Lois Johnson Thorne, 83, passed away Friday, August 9, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Sampson County on July 23, 1930 to the late Lorena Elizabeth Bradshaw Bray. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Haywood H. Bray; brother, Glennwood Johnson; sisters, Elise Robbins and Ruby Webster. Lois was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She cherished her time spent with her family; especially days spent at their beach home in Pine Knoll Shores, NC. She also enjoyed traveling all around the world with her loving husband of 58 years, Charlie. Left to cherish her memory, her husband, Charles E. Thorne, Sr. of Rocky Mount; daughters, Tern Darby of Zebulon, Susan Tanner and husband, Jimmy of Rocky Mount and Cathy Sutton of Red Oak; son, Chuck Thorne of Nashville; grandchildren, Alex Darby, Elizabeth Cook, Charlie Cook and Michael Sutton, Jr.; great-grandson, Alexander (Little Man). A very special thanks to all the wonderful nurses in ICU and 5th Floor at Nash Healthcare System for the exceptional care they pro-vided our wonderful mom as well as the love and compassion they extended to our family during this difficult time. Also, a warm thank you to Dr. Gilstrat, Dr. Meltzer and the wonderful staff at Duke University Medical Center, Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary Medicine for the care and support they have Oven over the years. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 100 South Church Street, Rocky Mount or Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 7011 Thurston-Bowles Bldg., Chapel Hill, NC 27599. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30pm on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. A graveside service to remember Lois will be held at 11:00am Monday, August 12, 2013 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Associate Pastor Tyler Williams of. First United Methodist Church of Rocky Mount officiating. Entombment following the service.
