Lillian Harris Rackley

lillian rackley

On October 24, 1933 in Nash County, God blessed William Amos and Viola Patterson Harris with a very special daughter Lillian Harris. Being born on the tail end of the Great Depression, life for many was hard enough. On top of that, Lillian would suffer the loss of her daddy at age 3 but she would later be given the gift of Robert Parker who would become her step-daddy, only to lose him at age 15. Lillian would not let that, or anything, stop her and she grew up to be loved and respected by her family and everyone that she ever met. On Sunday, May 17, 2020, at 86, God saw that Lillian was tired so he called her to come home to be with him. When God called, Lillian went and was met at the Pearly Gates by husband, love of her life, and best friend Joe Rackley, her parents and step-daddy, brothers and sisters, and daughter-in-law Diane Ferrell Rackley.
Lillian left her mark on the earth and left it a little better than she found it. She leaves to cherish her memories son Donald E. Rackley Sr and wife Donnae, daughter Jo Ann Edmonds and husband Ralph, step-son Allen Rackley, grandson Donald E. Rackley Jr and wife Sarah, and three great-grandchildren that meant the world to her, Bryson Rackley, Kenzie Diane Rackley, and Annie-Kate Rackley.
Lillian’s best times were spent being with her family, especially when they gathered for birthdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Lillian, who many knew through her time working in uptown Rocky Mount at Super 10, worked for over 40 years for Mr. Pope and the Varity Wholesellers Company with over 30 of them in management. She even retired and decided to go back because she missed the people. Lillian was a long time member of Faith Family Worship PH Church.

Lillian will be lying in repose Wednesday, May 20, 2020 from 8:30-5:00PM for public viewing.

The family will receive friends Thursday May 21, 2020 from 1:00-2:00 PM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with a graveside service to follow at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Gerald Parker and Richard Bledsoe officiating.
