Kenneth Garrett Obituary

Rocky Mount –

Kenneth R. Garrett, born June 1, 1954, passed away at 71 years old after a courageous battle with cancer. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication. He was the beloved son of Woodrow Wilson Garrett and Cora Mae Wiggins Garrett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Garrett and sister, Nancy Garrett.

Kenneth proudly served his country as a military police officer in the United States Air Force, where he developed a lifelong commitment to justice and integrity. Following his military service, he continued his devotion to public safety as a member of the Rocky Mount Police Department, where he faithfully served his community for thirty years before retiring.

Beyond his career, Kenneth found his greatest joy in his family. He was a devoted husband of forty-seven years to his loving wife, Linda Garrett. Together they built a life centered on love, laughter, and family values. He was a proud father to his daughters, Nikki Etheridge of Rolesville and Mitzi Safrit of Cape Carteret and a cherished grandfather to Hannah Torres, Paydin Etheridge, and Kylie Etheridge. He held a special place in his heart for his sons-in-law, Johnny Etheridge and Henry Safrit.

Kenneth will also be missed by his sisters, Betty Wall of Rocky Mount and Kathy Dixon (David) of Wilson; along with several nieces, nephews and other extended relatives.

Kenneth’s life was one of service, compassion and steadfast devotion- to his country, his community, and most of all, his family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.

A service to remember and pay tribute to Kenneth’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Northside Church, 1660 Beaver Pond Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
