Kathryn H Smith

ROCKY MOUNT – Kathryn Herge Smith, age 79, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023. Born in Essex County, NJ on June 3, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Norman Frederick Herge and Marie Harris Herge. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Thomas Smith; and her sister, Nancy Lou Herge Zduniewicz.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Kathryn was a secondary school teacher for 15 years until she moved to Rocky Mount in 1987 and taught at Wesleyan College. Later, she worked for Edgecombe-Nash Mental Health Services until her retirement in 2004. Kathryn always enjoyed promoting positive change and helping others to learn, encouraging them to grow. Following her husband’s passing, she looked forward to being reunited with him in Heaven.

Kathryn is survived by her sister-in-law, Muriel Bronovick and many special close friends.

A Graveside Service to celebrate Kathryn’s life will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 6:00 PM in the Chapel on the Hill Mausoleum at Rocky Mount Memorial Park, 4454 Dortches Blvd., Rocky Mount, NC 27804, with Rev. Dennis Gregory officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 PM to 5:45 PM prior to the service at the Chapel on the Hill Mausoleum at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
