Rocky Mount –

Judith “Judy” West Dugan, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Spring Arbor Assisted Living Memory Care in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Her journey began on April 22, 1942, daughter of Louis and Stacia Ellis West. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, John Louis “Bubba” West, Shirley Anderson and Brenda Anthony.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Nelson Dugan, Jr.; daughter, Melanie Dugan Strickland and husband, Keith of Rocky Mount; son, Mark Dugan, also of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Jessica Strickland, Hannah Strickland, Sarah Dugan and Brandee Dugan Kruse and husband, Branden of Wisconsin; great-granddaughter, Wrenlee Kruse; sister-in-law, Carolyn West of Florida and brother-in-law, Reed Anderson of Virginia.

Judy was a devoted Christian who served in many capacities including teaching little ones in Sunday School, attending bible study and also attending church services every Sunday. She was often called a “walking dictionary” because of her capability to spell words that most had trouble spelling. She enjoyed camping with her husband, her two kids and friends. Many close family members will remember her famous baked macaroni and cheese at Christmas and her joy of shopping every chance she got. Her grandkids remember her for the many sleepovers they had along with the promise of chocolate chip waffles and many adventures including the Sylvan Heights Bird Park. Everyone who knew Judy would remember her as welcoming and joyous to be around and she will be dearly missed by her family, friends and Englewood Baptist Church family.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 2:00pm at Englewood Baptist Church, 1350 S Winstead Ave, Rocky Mount, NC 27803. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 1:45pm prior to the service.
