Juanita Denton Proctor Batts Fountain, 87, died peacefully at her residence in Rocky Mount, NC on Saturday, June 29, 2013.
Juanita was born Sept. 5, 1925, in Wilson County to the late James Russell and Christine (Chrissie) Pearl Denton. She was preceded in death by her sister Margie Lee Denton Kirkland (Charles), brother Roy O. Denton (Nell). Also preceded in death were Juanita’s first husband William Fred Proctor and their three children: William Fred Proctor Jr., Wanda Kay Proctor Edwards and Linda Cheryl Proctor Turner Johnson and her husband Melvin (Squeak) Johnson; Juanita’s second husband, William Cooper (Bill) Batts; and third husband Henry Brown Fountain.
Juanita graduated from Rocky Mount High School. Throughout her working years, she held positions at Pegs, Campus Room, Serottas and retired from A&P Groceries. Later, she and her daughter Linda owned and operated Merle Norman Cosmetics of Golden East Crossing.
Juanita was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church and upon its closure, she moved her membership to West Haven Presbyterian Church. She had a passion for friendship, social activities and conversation. She enjoyed the outdoors, swinging, reading and watching the wildlife. She loved spending time reminiscing about old times and telling what she called “cute little joke.”
Juanita is survived by a granddaughter, Dawn Michelle Turner of Nashville; a great-granddaughter, Jessica Leigh Braswell of Nashville; a brother James Russell (Ike) and his wife, Betty Lou Denton of Rocky Mount; two step-daughters, Martha F. Johnson of Rocky Mount and Paula F. Kermon of Greenville, NC; a very special nephew, Rusty Denton of Pinetops, who was her supporter, caregiver and confidant; and several other nephews and nieces.
The family wishes to send a word of thanks to the staff of Sterling House in Rocky Mount for their care and compassion shown to Juanita and her family during her residency.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, with services following at 11 a.m. in the Rocky Mount Memorial Garden Mausoleum, with Betty Kirkpatrick officiating. Johnson Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
