Joyce G Cone

Joyce Anne Gurganus Cone, age 71, passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018. Born in Duplin County, NC on December 12, 1947, she was the daughter of Doshia Ellen Tadlock Evans and the late Woody James Gurganus.

Joyce worked as a hairdresser for over 20 years. She enjoyed writing poetry, loved to dance, and loved Elvis. Family was most important to her and she enjoyed spending time with them. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her, but her loving spirit will never be forgotten as she was everything to her family.

Along with her mother, Joyce leaves behind to cherish her memory, husband of 52 years, Wilbur Cone; daughters, Beth Candler and husband, Danny, Kimberly Hackney and husband, Chris, and Wendy Langley and husband, Rodney. She is also survived by grandchildren, Michael Hackney, Brandon Hackney, Ariel Langley, and Landon Langley; great-grandson, Tristen Issac Hackney; brothers, James Gurganus and Larry Gurganus; sisters, Martha Davis and Deborah Radabaugh; numerous nieces and nephews; and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
