James Alton Crusenberry Sr.

James Alton “Sonny” Crusenberry, Sr., age 70, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 06, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Edgecombe County, he was the son of Ethel Vandiford Crusenberry of Rocky Mount and the late James Calvin Crusenberry.
Sonny ran Howard Johnson’s Shell Service Station for 8 years and he was currently the owner of Sonny’s Towing and Repair Service of Rocky Mount.
Along with his mother, Sonny is survived by his loving wife of 52 ½ years, Claudia Whitley Crusenberry; sons, James A. Crusenberry, Jr. and wife Katherine of Castalia and Michael C. Crusenberry of Raleigh; grandchildren, Stephen Crusenberry of Castalia and Katie Crusenberry of Raleigh; and great-grandchild, Dominic Sharpiro of Raleigh. He is also survived by his sisters, Janice C. Howell and husband Jim of Wilson and Judy C. Rogers and husband Don of Rocky Mount.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Tuesday evening, February 08, 2011 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. A service to remember Sonny will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday afternoon in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jacky Raper officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
