Howard Wilson Taylor of Rocky Mount passed away October 8, 2023 at the age of 81. He was born in Angier, NC on January 8, 1942. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles E. and Gertrude B. Taylor, daughter Donna T. Green, brother Glenn Taylor, and sister Dot Davidson. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Linda A. Taylor of Rocky Mount, daughters Rhonda T. Capps (Billy) of Red Oak, Sandra K. Taylor (Todd McGee) of Lincolnton, and Jennifer T. Moss (Brian) of Spring Hope, Grandchildren Amy Peterson (Jeff) of Wilson, Amanda Green (James Wood) of Raleigh, Andrew Capps (Julia) of Newport, Emily Lowman (Caleb) of Raleigh, Brandon Houser (Allie) of Lincolnton, Melinda Hall of Wilson, and Jeremy Hall of Spring Hope, as well as 6 great-grandchildren, Teagan, Hadley, and River Peterson of Wilson, Lily Lowman of Raleigh, and Elisha and Ella Wood of Raleigh. He is also survived by his sister, Mickey Johnson of Lumberton, his brothers-in-law, Ronnie Arnold (more like a brother) of Angier and Slim Davidson of Meridian, MS, and his best friend, Stuart Gardner of Angier.
Howard was a Christian at an early age and was always very involved in church. He loved singing in the choir and served many years as a deacon. He met Linda at Angier School in 1955 and they were married 4 years later at the ages of 16 and 15. While working at Belk following his HS graduation, Howard decided he would like to service cash registers so he began a career at National Cash Register in the Fall of 1960. He worked with NCR for 37 years and then worked for 14 years with IBM Corp. In 2002, Howard and his daughter Rhonda began their business venture as owners of Express Tax Returns in several cities. Howard was an active member of the Benvenue Ruritan Club for 56 years, serving in all capacities. He was recently honored for being the longest serving member of the Club. Howard loved traveling, camping, water and snow skiing, long walks on the beach, playing tennis, and playing softball, which he did into his 70’s, and anything he could do with his family.
Howard was a loving husband, daddy, and granddaddy. We will honor him with a Celebration of Life service on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Benvenue Baptist Church, 2464 Benvenue Road, Rocky Mount, NC. Visitation will be from 12:30-1:45 pm with the service to begin at 2:00 pm. The burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
