Heleen Jones Sumner

Helen Jones Sumner, 89, formerly of Rocky Mount, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 18,2016 at Heritage Place in Owensboro, KY. She was born January 2, 1927 to the late Jesse and Lala Jones in Kenansville, NC. Helen was a graduate of East Carolina University. During her younger years she was a home economics extension agent, a 4-H leader, a substitute school teacher, and a private tutor. She was a faithful member of Methodist Churches in Wallace, Clinton and Rocky Mount., serving in various capacities.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Jesse Sumner and two brothers, James Earl and Robert Jones.

Survivors include a son Wayne Sumner (Karen) of Boone, a daughter, Rose Ayers (Ken) of Owensboro, KY. five grandchildren, Stephanie Ayers (Steve) of Chandler, AZ, David Ayers (Kethy) of Cape Coral, FL, Jessica Barrett (Will) of Johnson City, TN, Daniel Ayers (Kristen) of Lexington KY, and Danielle Wade (Andrew) of Boone, and six great grandchildren, Kara Barrett, Lindsay and Michael Wade, Emma and Oliver Ayers, and Katlyn Sofia Ayers, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 23 at 1:00 pm at Englewood United Methodist Church in Rocky Mount. Dr. John Dutton and Rev. Woody Wells officiating. The family will receive friends at Englewood UMC following the service. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
