Harry Lee Carpenter, Sr.

Harry Lee Carpenter, Sr, 77, passed away on Thursday, August 26 2021. He was born in Nash County, N.C. on April, 7, 1944. He was the son of the late Otis Lee Carpenter and Dorothy Bessie Carpenter. He was the husband of Dell Poland Carpenter. They had celebrated 59 years of marriage. Harry Lee Carpenter, Sr. was an only child.
Harry was a loving husband and father. He always put his family first. He had a fun-loving spirit about him that made life enjoyable for everyone around him and you could always count on having a chuckle and singing a song or two. But most importantly of all, he made sure his family, friends and acquaintances knew about the love of Jesus and the place called Heaven. He grew up in the Sandy Cross area and remained in that area his entire adult life. He retired from CSX Railroad with 38 years of service.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by 4 children: Lynne Spencer (Gene) of Middlesex, Angie Carpenter of Spring Hope, Lee Carpenter (Sherry) of Nashville and Mark Carpenter (Lisa) of Elm City; twelve grandchildren: Dustin Crickmore , Megan Strickland, Jared Strickland, Amber Tedder, Lindsey Brannon, Lesley Holly, Levi Carpenter, Dylan Carpenter, Ashlyn Shook, Erin Spencer, Jordan Fountain and Carley Fountain; eleven great grandchildren: Allison Jane, Braylon, Camdyn, Eason, Grace, Hayleigh, Jonathon, Kashton, Kendall, Lane and Riley.

Visitation with family and friends will be Wednesday, September 1, 2021 from 1:00-1:45PM at Cornerstone Funeral Home with a funeral service to be held at 2:00PM in the Chapel with Rev. Lynn Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
