Grover Hopkins Smith

Grover Hopkins Smith, 87, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016. He was born December 30, 1928 in Nash County to the late John W. Smith, Sr., birth mother, Mary Hopkins Smith and mother, Lottie Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Elizabeth, Marie, Kay , Helen and Doris, and a brother, John W. Smith, Jr. and Marvin Smith.

Grover is survived by his wife, Mavis Surles Smith; daughter, Linda Smith Hawkins; sons, Danny Ray Smith and wife Kaye, Grover Alan Smith; grandchildren, Brandon Smith and girlfriend Christy, Melissa Wade and husband Jeff, Kristal Howell and husband Jonathan, Kari Smith, Derrick Smith; great grandchildren Max Wade, Olivia Wade, Micah Wade, Chloe Howell and Sophia Howell; brothers, Roger Hopkins and Donald Ray Smith and wife Pat, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 1:00 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Cornerstone Funeral Home.

A service to celebrate his life will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Cornerstone Funeral Home with Rev. Chet Rains officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
