Gertie Waddell Porter, 84, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005.
She was born Sept. 21, 1921, in Wayne County, daughter of the late John Henry and Josephine Ward Waddell. She was the widow of the late Charles William Porter and was preceded in death by four sisters. Mrs. Porter was a retired registered nurse from Carolina General Hospital in Wilson and a member of the Blind Support Group.
Surviving are her daughter, Sandra Porter Lamm and her husband, Omar Brian Lamm Sr., of Nashville; grandchildren, Omar Brian Lamm Jr. and his wife, Tania, of San Diego, Calif., Mandy Lamm Bailey and her husband, Jason, of Rocky Mount and Andrew Porter Lamm of Rocky Mount; great-grandchildren, James Porter Lamm, Kaitlyn Gabrielle Lamm, Julieanna Bailey and Sophia Nicole Lamm (born in Dec 23, 2005 in Calif.); sisters, Smithie Davis of Raleigh and Davor Colesman of Fairfax, Va.; and sister-in-law-, Orlene Porter Hamlin of Portland, Ore.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at Rocky Mount Memorial Park, with the Rev. Time Carter officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home.
