Frances Robbins Melvin

Frances Robbins Melvin, age 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 20, 2021. Born in Wilson County, NC on April 5, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Robbins and Gertie Edwards Robbins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Louis Melvin; and 13 brothers and sisters.

Frances retired from Abbott Laboratories. She was a longtime member of Gospel Missionary Baptist Church where she graciously served in many functions. Frances was a very active and faithful servant who loved her family, her church family, and her many friends. She loved to travel and volunteered for many years with Meals on Wheels. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her, but her loving spirit will never be forgotten as she was everything to her family.

Frances is survived by her children, Stanley Gunter of Winston-Salem, Vickie DeSalsi (Peter) of Rocky Mount, Jackie Gunter of Raleigh, Von Lowe (Walker) of Knightdale, and Wendy Drake Hinson (Mark) of Red Oak; her grandchildren, Greg Pearson (Jennifer), Fallon Merry (Neal), Eric Walker (Jonni), Sarah Hinson, and Maggie Hinson; her great-grandchildren, Hayden Pearson and Etta Jack Merry; her sister-in-law, Ellen Robbins; and many nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Rev. Allen Mills officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.

The family would like to say a special thanks to Frances’ caregivers, June Adkins and Catherine Coats and also to Nash UNC Health Care Systems Hospice & Palliative Care.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the family is requesting the need for social distancing and wearing of masks due to health concerns faced around our nation at this time.
